Youtube Video Production Curriculum

2016 The increasing number of million-subscriber channels is indicative of the exponential growth YouTube has experienced since its 2005 inception. A trip in the WayBack Machine tells us that on February 23, 2010 — YouTube's 5th birthday — there were only five channels with at least one million subscribers. Two years later, that number was up to 68; two years after that, 594; and now, two years and five weeks later, there are 2,000 'YouTube millionaires.' In the past year alone, more than 850 new channels have claimed that title.”

How YouTube Ranking Algorithms Works

Secrets of the YouTube Search Algorithm The algorithm for suggesting videos includes prioritizing videos that lead to a longer overall viewing session over those that receive more clicks. Viewers benefit from more enjoyable content being suggested to them, and creators benefit from more focused, engaged audiences. If you're making videos that people are watching well beyond the first click, those videos will be suggested more often.”

Only Michele Rhee and her right-wing followers would argue the this type of exchange is not of value:

Collaboration: “I think if there is one thing I have learned over the last 15 months, it's that cooperation, collaboration and consensus-building are way overrated.” (September 2008 Aspen Institute's education summit, quoted by Washington Post) Michelle Rhee

Another Did You Know of great importance to our scholars. From: Dawn Sahouani I use youtube videos from time to time and was wondering if you have any suggestions to add to my repertoire.

Blow up a whale news story of a dead whale that washes up on a beach. The highway department decides to blow it to smithereens so that the seagulls, crabs and scavengers will carry away the last bits of the stinking carcass. "Blast blasted blubber beyond all believable bounds" is a great example of alliteration. Beyond that, it's a great reminder that what one EXPECTS to happen isn't always what WILL happen. Investigate the realm of possible outcomes. Plan for and adjust strategies accordingly.

Honda Accord commercial Every action has an impact on something else. We are all connected. Beyond that, it's just cool.

Cement guy revenge http://youtube.com/watch?v=Wwqeqb1dmP4 This is a European commercial without words. I use it to talk about jumping to conclusions before having all the evidence. I've also used it in a grammar unit as a way of generating lists of verbs, adjectives, adverbs, etc.

Dutch glider commercial http://youtube.com/watch?v=OkDFuFkZSF0 Again, European commercial with no words. I use it the same as the cement truck, but also "show don't tell" and writing narratives from varying perspectives.

Be sure to cover all your bases, or in this class - tape off all the entrances! I love the Centraal Beheer commercials. If you put "Centraal Beheer" as your search words, you'll hit on a whole string of them.
